Review: Giro Scale ski helmet & Giro Cruz ski goggles

A good ski helmet is an essential item at the slopes. Therefore, the first thing I bought for my trip to Saalbach was a ski helmet. I chose the Giro Scale ski helmet, with matching Giro Cruz ski goggles.

Always wear a helmet on the ski slopes

Practically everyone wears a helmet on the slopes today, especially the younger generations. If you think about at what speeds you get down the slopes and how likely it is to fall, a helmet is a necessary item. Even though you can rent a helmet at the ski rental, I chose to buy my own helmet. That way I know for sure that I have a new and above all safe helmet.

Only the question what helmet that was supposed to be remained, and it needed a considerable search. There are slight differences in the fit of a ski helmet and it is very important you find one that fits well. After trying a lot of ski helmets the helmets of Giro seemed to fit me well. Coincidence or not, also my bike helmets are almost all Giro helmets.

In the end I chose the Giro Scale. This ski helmet has an In Form Fit System. A dial fit button on the back of the helmet ensures that I can easily adjust the helmet so that it fits well on my head. Thanks to this system both without and with – especially on cold days – a hat the helmet fits well, without being too tight or too loose. The helmet is warm and comfortable. A big advantage is that the padding on the inside of the helmet is removable and washable. This way you can wash after a day on the slopes and the helmet stays fresh.

The slopes in Saalbach can be challenging so I have crashed quite a few times. The helmet stays in place and it also keeps the goggle in place when you take a dive in the snow.

What do I think of the helmet?

There are small differences between ski helmets in terms of model, fit, weight or adjustment systems. But the most important thing remains that you buy a sturdy and safe helmet. Still, on the slopes I was glad I had tried on so many helmets before I finally bought one. The Giro Scale ski helmet is warm but also comfortable. When you put the Scale on you can hardly tell you are wearing a helmet, because it fits so well. It turned out to be a helmet that I am very satisfied with.

The Giro Scale ski helmet has a simple and sleek design and is available in different colors. I ordered the Matte White version, so the helmet fits all my skiwear. Wearing a ski helmet during your winter sport is a must and with this helmet you choose a safe and comfortable helmet that also looks good on the slopes.

Giro Cruz ski goggles

Together with the helmet I bought Giro Cruz ski goggles. The big advantage of these Giro goggles is that they fit seamlessly to the helmets of the same brand. The Giro Cruz is a medium-fit goggle with a wide field of view. This way the goggle does not limit you in your view. De Cruz has different colors category 2 lenses that are suitable for cloudy and moderately sunny weather. Thanks to the anti-fog coating, you are less likely to get fogged lenses. All in all it is a nice all-round lens for a friendly price.
